Preen designer on grunge renaissancePreen designer Justin Thornton finds it “fascinating” to see grunge make a comeback in fashion.

Justin runs the luxury label with his wife Thea Bregazzi and their designs are known for being edgy and eclectic.

Punk rock has inspired many of the Fall/Winter 13 shows, with the usually elegant Saint Laurent channelling the look in its latest collection.

Justin finds it interesting to see trends re-emerging in the industry.

“It’s fascinating,” he gushed to British magazine InStyle.

“One of our interns was wearing a T-shirt with [former New Wave band] the Thompson Twins on the front and we were like, ‘Do you know who they are?’ and they said ‘No, but they look cool.’ It’s funny when things regurgitate for a new generation to wear but they interpret it in a different way.”

Preen’s Fall/Winter 13 collection showed elements of grunge during London Fashion Week, with models sporting largely red and black.

The couple recently welcomed their youngest daughter into the world and would be keen to introduce a kids’ line in the future.

“I’d love to! I have so many ideas,” Thea exclaimed.

“Children’s wear needs to be practical as well as cool and cute. I’d love the challenge.”

Justin added: “It’s something we probably will launch but it has to be the right time. We’d call it ‘Mini Preen’ and do small versions of what we do for adults.”
