Pierre Bergé “adored” Hedi Slimane’s Fall/Winter 13 Saint Laurent collection.
Late designer Yves Saint Laurent’s romantic partner has been outspoken in his support of the label’s new creative director.
Although many fashion critics weren’t impressed with Hedi’s latest line, Pierre was full of praise for the grunge-inspired clothes.
“I adored it; it’s exactly what needed to be done.” Pierre told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s very moving for me, because it’s the spirit of Saint Laurent, but revisited with Hedi’s enormous talent. It’s terrific… I was the one who hired him, after all, so I have always had tremendous confidence in Hedi, and I’m thrilled.”
Pierre has dedicated his life to keeping the memory and creative vision of his lifelong partner alive through the Fondation Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent.
Hedi is the first frontman who he has supported after he publicly disapproved of the label’s previous two designers, Tom Ford and Stefano Pilati.
PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault recently told the publication more about Pierre’s championing of Hedi.
“He was the first to say [Mr. Slimane] was an excellent choice,” François-Henri revealed. “Pierre knew him very well.”
