Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been named the top womenswear designers by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The twin sisters took home the biggest accolade of the evening as they attended the organisation’s annual fashion awards last night. Mary-Kate and Ashley looked sleek and elegant in matching purple and black silk gowns as they were handed the trophy from Jessica Chastain. The 25-year-olds stuck to their unique style with minimal silver jewellery, understated smoky eye make-up and sleek hair.
“I’d like to thank you – you,” Mary-Kate told sister Ashley accepting the award.
The glamorous event took place at New York’s Lincoln centre and attracted a mix of fashion experts and Hollywood stars alike.
Movie heartthrob Johnny Depp was named as the evening’s style icon but wasn’t in attendance to accept the accolade. Instead, his filmmaker friend John Waters took to the stage for him.
“This man can’t look ugly no matter how hard he tries,” he quipped as he received the trophy on Depp’s behalf.
Amongst the famous fashionistas in the auditorium was Kate Bosworth, who stood out in a bright cut-out Joseph Altuzarra dress with gold embellishment. Teamed with black killer heels and a black clutch, the actress looked a million dollars.
Zoe Saldana dazzled in a black Prabal Gurung gown with see-through panels and a flowing sheer skirt. Keeping her accessories minimal, the Avatar star added dramatic dark eyeshadow and slicked back hair to complete the look.
Budding fashionista Dakota Fanning looked cute in an unusual Proenza Schouler frock with Asian-inspired patterns. The 18-year-old showed off her style credentials by teaming the edgy design with a metallic handbag and fierce black shoe-boots.
