When the blazer vest made its way down the runway on model Charlotte Hoyer in Jason Wu’s Spring Summer 2013 show, we were suitably excited. The American designer may have chosen to style the oversized blazer vest provocatively – with nothing under it – but we think this piece will be the upcoming star of our work wardrobe.

Not only does the blazer vest look smart, it is also perfect for Singapore’s weather – what essentially is a sleeveless blazer will keep us cool and our look office appropriate.

Wu wasn’t the only one who felt that the blazer vest was going to be popular with the fashion crowd. Donna Karan too had her own slouchy version – in the palest yellow – the pastel hue gave a feminine flair to the traditionally masculine piece. A lapel-less colour-blocked blazer vest also appeared at the Tibi show and the look was complete with a matching skirt with a sheer hemline that was the epitome of city chic.

While Dennis Basso’s baby pink motorcycle vest doesn’t fall quite under the blazer vest category, we couldn’t help but mention it. What is originally a tough vest was transformed into a girly pink affair, especially when paired with sweet lace shorts.
