There are some people in the world who have an obsession for handbags, others for shoes, but those who love watches are in a group of their own. Proof of this is the number of magazines and websites dedicated to watches, watches, timepieces and more watches.

One of Singapore’s most popular of these products is Nuyou Time, the dedicated annual Chinese language publication created by the team at Singapore’s number one Chinese magazine, Nuyou.

Nuyou Time’s 10th Anniversary DECOR

Singapore’s first Chinese watch annual published by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines) is celebrating its 10th year of publication with a sumptuous edition featuring top star Zoe Tay on the cover, and designed by one of Singapore’s best-known graphic artists, Theseus Chan – internationally-acclaimed President’s Design Award winner and founder of creative agency WORK.

It was Mr Chan’s genius that came up with the stunning concept of the double cover for the anniversary edition that features Zoe Tay as both female, and male, versions of herself depicting “timelessness” and the cross-gender trends of current watch styles.

The addition of gold filigree designs echoes the medieval period of history which has featured so strongly on the catwalks for Autumn Winter 2012/13; it also showcase the highly complicated timepieces of French watchmaker and jeweller Cartier.

“The design for the covers is a modern take on medieval art, now a prominent Fall/Winter 2012 trend,” explains Mr Chan. “The artwork also features ornate gold and silver filigree patterns, partly inspired by the outfits and timepieces worn by Zoe Tay, and also because they are fittingly opulent for the magazine’s 10th anniversary.”

As part of the celebrations for this major anniversary, 10 artists from Singapore and abroad, were asked to interpret the concept of “time” and their stunning artworks were featured in both the magazine and also in an exhibition, Time, Through The Eyes of Art, at ION Art Gallery, which runs until September 2, 2012.

The works range from photographs from visual artist, John Clang and his mentees Lavender Chang, Alecia Neo, Sam Kang Li, to an elegant dish from chef and founder of Restaurant Andre, Andre Chiang, and encompasses fashion from Max Tan, jewellery from Carolyn Kan of Carrie K and ceramics from artist Wee Hong Ling.

Other pieces were created by Paris-based Macanese artist and illustrator, Hong Wai, and Malaysian fashion designer and founder of Mellooi Creation, Melinda Looi.

On top of this, there are an amazing 10 watches worth more than $30,000 being given away to readers.

“Fine watches are not mere tools for telling time; they are also wonderful works of art. I am always amazed by the beauty of their craftsmanship and the complex mechanical movements in a tiny watch case,” says Grace Lee, editor-in-chief, Nuyou and Nuyou Time.

“The inventiveness displayed by timepiece makers is often breathtaking and awe inspiring. The 10th anniversary special edition of Nuyou Time is a celebration of the art of time – an expression that covers a full array of emotions and boundless creativity. This is what Nuyou Time is all about.”

Don’t miss the exhibition; there are only a few more days until it closes so pop in while you can and don’t forget to pick up a copy of Nuyou Time’s 10th anniversary special edition to find out how you can enter to win one of the fabulous watches.
