New York Fashion Week trend report: Crop tops

Get yourself to the gym now because midriff-baring crop tops have not lost their appeal and are still on-trend for Spring Summer 2014, as seen from the parade of bare stomachs seen at Rag & Bone, Jill Stuart and more

If you are thinking about cancelling your gym membership once this current season is over – don’t. In fact, start hunting for a pilates class too. Instead of losing steam in 2013, crop tops are still going strong for Spring Summer 2014.

Although there were glimmers of bare torso on the first day of New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014, BCBG Max Aria and Richard Chai really started the ball rolling with looks paired with toned stomachs on day two. Crop tops have, since then, been a recurring theme at NYFW for SS14.

Both Alexander Wang and Jill Stuart opted to reveal the most flattering portion of the models’ stomach – above the belly button – to show off a sliver of skin. Peter Som took a more boyish skater girl approach with graphic prints tops with low-slung trousers to put washboard abs full on display. The crop top attempted to be office appropriate when Rag & Bone’s Marcus Wainwright and David Neville chopped the bottom off their tops but kept the accompanying blazers oversized – well one could always button up in the office.

So yes, let us all start on our crunches right now!
