New York Fashion Week trend report: Black and white

Black-and-white looks make a splash in a sea of colour at the Spring Summer 2014 shows of Victoria Beckham, Diane von Furstenberg and more, at New York Fashion Week

It seems that the fashion world is not tired of the evergreen combination of black and white, even after the domination of monotone looks seen on the Spring Summer 2013 runway shows.

Helmut Lang led the pack of black-and-white warriors with a troop of minimalist slouchy looks – tube dresses paired with jackets and a crop-top-and-low-slung-skirt ensemble were all on colour theme. Over at Victoria Beckham, white frills peeked out from black separates in the clean chic style that Beckham favoured.

Black and white formed a fish-net print on the Diane von Furstenberg runway and the sassy show stopping halter neck jumpsuit proved that black and white need not be boring. Edun designer Danielle Sherman also played with a mix of graphic black-and-white prints – rows of triangles and checks – nailing a fun but unfussy look.
