Tom Ford launches 2k glassesTom Ford’s new retro eye glasses will set customers back US$2,950 (approximately $3,703.73).

The 1950s inspired Special Edition Optical Eyewear Collection are priced about ten times more than the average pair of designer frames.

They are made from water buffalo horn and gold-plated metal, which is the reason for the eye-watering price.

The frames will be available in men’s and women’s ranges and sold in Tom Ford boutiques and select luxury department stores.

“These gently retro-influenced frames represent the highest levels of design and fabrication in eyewear,” a Tom Ford statement said, according to Fashionista.

“Subtly luxurious and crafted with meticulous workmanship, the two styles are some of the most refined ever offered by Tom Ford Eyewear.”

The frames and leather case are sold in a Bakelite box with a soft brown lining.

They come with a certificate of authenticity along with special cleansing cream and chamois cloth to look after the water buffalo horn which “appears slightly different on every frame due to its organic origin”. Image: Fashionista
