Started in February this year by FJ Sai and Issac Ang, both 26, Loop Garms buys, sells and trades ’80s to ’90s pop culture tees, sporting jackets and jerseys, as well as caps, bags, and apparel like plaid pants, overalls, and even fishing vests.

FJ and Issac’s love for vintage started in 2012, when a trip to Korea and Japan introduced the two to recycle stores in Japan and the thriving vintage scenes in both countries, which fascinated them. “From that trip alone we bought quite a fair bit of things, and pursued our buying on sites like eBay. We also thrift a fair bit in Singapore, but obviously the selection cannot compare to what you can find in places like Japan or even the US,” says FJ. “Starting Loop Garms was therefore a way to pay homage to our passion for vintage clothes, and also to allow like-minded people to connect with one another.”

Products are sourced via the two’s regional and international friends and connections. To verify the authenticity of their goods, the duo research and “go beyond the clothes tags to understand the make, model and origins of a product.” “Any time we don’t feel confident about the authenticity of a product, we will take precautions and choose to not buy it,” says FJ.
Loop Garms does small restocks every Thursday and major restocks after its monthly one week break. Buy-ins from customers are put up for sale the next day, so new releases are available daily. If you are hoping to score a vintage windbreaker or graphic tee, check back frequently and make your move fast – these are the products FJ says are the most popular at the store. Price range: T-shirts and caps from $15, and jackets from $35.
Loop Garms opens from noon to 7.30pm most days except on Wednesday, and closes for a week every month for restocking. Follow @loopgarms for updates. Address: 635 Veerasamy Road, #01-148, Singapore 200635.
