This is just in: The revered Off-White designer Virgil Abloh, who was once rapper Kanye West’s right-hand man, has been sworned in as Louis Vuitton’s newest menswear designer. The news came in after Virgil’s predecessor Kim Jones, had announced his departure from the oldest European luxury house. Kim is now slated to join rival Christian Dior.

According to New York Times, Virgil was elated with the promotion, calling it “a goal in his wildest dreams.”

This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start,” said Abloh.

To announce his appointment, Virgil shared an Instagram post on his personal account of a treasured Louis Vuitton trunk, with the initials LV, without a caption.

The CEO of Louis Vuitton, Michael Burke shared, “Having followed with great interest Virgil’s ascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today. His sensibility towards luxury and savoirfaire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton’s menswear into the future.”
