Local designer Thomas Wee’s recently debuted his ‘White & Black’ Resort collection that is currently being showcased at the KEEPERS’ Playshop from Dec 15 to the end of January.

For those who want to further  #supportlocal, Thomas Wee’s future collections will be permanently displayed at the Carrie K. boutique which sits on the second storey of National Design Centre come February onwards.

The 30-piece range, which showcases Thomas’ flair for evincing the beauty in austere simplicity, is priced between $240 to $880. The pop-up will feature new drops from the collection every week, according to colour scheme. The all-white pieces were the first to launch, and will be followed by the colourblock designs and then the full-black numbers.

At first glance, it’s clear that the veteran designer lets his garments do the talking, with minimal fuss and embellishments. Lightweight silk and cotton are crafted into contemporary silhouettes with asymmetrical sensibility and elegant details — a reference to the designer’s inspiration for the collection: a woman on holiday; at the beach or aboard a cruise ship.

Take a look at three of our favourite looks we spotted at the pop-up.

1. Blouse with ‘butterfly back’

We like this particular number for its understated elegance. The simple scoop neck blouse features an elaborate bow-tie back design for a touch of drama. It’s very ‘Audrey Hepburn’ with a contemporary twist.

2. Sleeveless blouse with asymmetrical skirt

A prime embodiment of Thomas’ quality workmanship, this blouse has a J-shaped front opening detail with intricate stitching and buttons. The details and structure of the garment are a hallmark of a designer who knows how to frame a woman’s body best with his works.

Thomas’ penchant for A-line silhouettes shines through with this slightly more elaborate midi skirt design (pictured left on mannequin). This midi skirt with draped side flaps feature a tie-knot — also one of the designer’s preferred details — which is repeated throughout the collection.

3. Bohemian tiered dress

Thomas has never done bohemian dresses in his years of being a designer. So it is particularly noteworthy that this is the first time he has embarked on cruise wear with an attempt at crafting a beautiful, breezy midi dress (pictured above on the right). The result, albeit atypical of his signature style (A-line silhouettes and structured draping), was breathtaking. The tiered dress allows the fabric to cascade down in ruffles, and is finished with a vintage trim from the 50s’.
