Sustainability might just be the biggest buzzword of 2019 and we’re welcoming that with open arms. Here are some brands that are showing us the way.

Her World's sustainability issue

1. Reviving deadstock: Tove & Libra

Hong Kong-based e-commerce apparel brand Tove & Libra is on a mission to help women build wardrobes that can evolve seamlessly through the seasons while minimising fabric wastage. And founders Christine Chow and Ivan Tang are doing that one step at a time: from providing capsule collections that are easily integratable into one’s existing closet, to staying committed to a manufacturing philosophy of quality over quantity.

For its F/W ‘19 collection, Tove & Libra’s eco-conscious approach to producing fashion translates to their decision to repurpose deadstock yarns and materials. The result is a simple yet effortlessly chic collection of basic pieces. “My goal is to ensure beautiful fabrics and flattering fits form the foundation for a work-to-weekend wardrobe, while ethical and eco-conscious processes are expected as a given!” says Chow.

One of our favourites would have to be the 100% tencel jumpsuit, a  soft and breathable fabric made from wood pulp that requires less energy and water than cotton.

2. Changing consumption habits: Style Theory

The temptations and pressures to constantly update one’s wardrobe is difficult to mitigate, but Style Theory presents a win-win solution: a subscription-based designer apparel rental platform.

The process is easy. Choose between three plans (each determines the number of items you get in a box), select the pieces you want, and return then when you’re done to receive a new box. And one of the best parts is that Style Theory even settles the washing/dry-cleaning for you. Yes, thanks to founders Raena Lim and Chris Halim, the infinite yet sustainable wardrobe is not a pipedream, and so is skipping laundry day.
