With over 50 designers featured from 11 Asian countries, this might just be the most impactful Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW) to date.

Spanning over three days from October 26-28, SGFW returns to the National Gallery Singapore for the second year.

That’s not to say that it’d be any less effectual as compared to previous years – we’re looking at a strong line-up of global talents and energising Asian brands that promise to deliver a cultured presentation of thought-provoking collections.

Without further ado, here are the top 5 reasons why you wouldn’t want to give SGFW a miss this year.

1.  Singaporean fashion designer to open the show for the first time

Laichan Spring/Summer 18′

Consider fashion history broken: Opening to main show this year is fashion veteran and the hidden gem of Singapore’s fashion industry – Laichan.

As the first Singaporean designer to ever open the show, Laichan – in collaboration with Her World – will kick off SGFW with his Spring/Summer 2018 collection, created with the Her World reader (yes, you) in mind. Expect to see opulent looking pieces, inspired by Asian culture and history, from this bespoke designer, who has dressed the likes of dignitaries and high society ladies.

2. Jason Wu will be here

Jason Wu Spring 18′

The New York-based designer, Jason Wu, needs no introduction. He is arguably most famous for dressing Michelle Obama at her first Inauguration Ball in 2009. The A-list celeb favourite also dressed Hollywood stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Juliana Moore and Diane Kruger. At SGFW, the designer will be making his runway debut in Asia with his Spring 2018 collection.

3. Exciting collaborations

Exhibit Fall/Winter 17′

We all know her as Yoyokulala, the top fashion influencer who put Singapore on the map with her recurring appearances on Vogue during global Fashion Weeks. Also known as Yoyo Cao, this is the fourth time the designer is showcasing her womenswear label Exhibit at SGFW.

This year, Exhibit will be collaborating with Charles & Keith to showcase their Winter ’17 collection. It’s a match made in heaven, if you ask us. Teaming Exhibit’s minimalist appeal and atypical silhouettes with Charles & Keith’s luxe accessories can only result in a modish presentation of contemporary looks – and we can’t wait to see them.

4. Modest fashion hits our shores

This new age of fashion has seen more adoptors on the runways such as fashion big names Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino and H&M.

Look out for three modest fashion shows at SGFW, featuring some of the biggest labels of modest wear. A true standout is Jovian Mandagie, one of Malaysia’s top womenswear designers renowned for his ready-tone-wear line of diversified pieces with intricate adornments. Having previously dressed celebrities and collaborated with established platforms such as ZALORA, this ingenious designer is one to look out for.

5. Social media stars to flood your IG

ARISSA X N° collection

Conspicuous style personality Arissa Cheo will be presenting the second collection titled N° from her newly debuted label ARISSA X. We’re stoked to see how the charming social media highflyer’s love for music and literature translates through her artistic vision into luxe rock and roll pieces and edgy chic looks.

You’ll also spot popular influencers such as Nicole Warne as she opens the Fashion Tech summit, alongside Jason Wu, with an engaging discussion on the fashion x digital correlation in today’s context.
