Now that customisation has become mainstream, how does one up the game? Louis Vuitton’s take: Bring back the past, or make it more fun. The brand’s My LV World Tour combines both - the vintage appeal and the fun - for a personalisation service available for its range of small and large leather goods.

My LV World Tour Personalisation Service

The free service introduced in June this year gives 20 styles from the Monogram and Damier Graphite Canvas families an “old” or “well-travelled” look by adding printed “vintage” stickers to them. The latter comes in 60 designs under five categories - Grand Hotels, Cities, LV Heritage (a collection of the brand’s vintage logos), LV Pop (rockets, planets and peace signs) and Make It Your Own (initials and a special date to you). The customisation, done in Paris, takes up to eight weeks.

How it works: Pick your bag/accessory. The service is available for 20 selected models, which includes the Neverfull, Speedy Bandouliere 30, Keepall Bandouliere 50, Horizon Rolling Luggage 55, Zippy wallet, and the Victorine Wallet in Monogram canvas. Then the stickers (five for small leather goods and up to 10 for bigger ones), and where you want them. Two months later, pick up your customised bag at the store you ordered from.

As the service is free, a personalised bag costs the same as one off-the-rack. Like the Speedy Bandouliere 30 pictured above, which is priced at $1,910.

The Twist

The bag got its name from the functional LV twist-lock that features prominently front and centre on every Twist bag. To unlock, twist the “L” until it fits into the “V” with a click.

If you prefer to leave the (possibly stress-inducing) task of dressing up your LV bags to the brand’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière instead, get this season’s new Twist bags. First introduced in the Cruise 2015 collection, the Twist features an LV twist-lock, a convertible chain handle so it can be worn two ways, and a “wave” base that allows the bag to be expanded for extra space when necessary. It gets reimagined every season in new colours, new textures and new patterns; like this Fall/Winter’s version that has playful pop art pins not unlike the ones from My LV World Tour.
