This F/W '19 collection is what every woman needs in her closet

At his second collection for the French powerhouse Celine, creative director Hedi Slimane presented a collection filled with classic, stylish and timeless wardrobe essentials — clothes that a woman truly needs

Hedi Slimane hasn't got better at his debuts for storied houses: His frst collection at Saint Laurent was panned, and at Celine, he had insiders scratching their heads. But the second time for the letter is the charm. Why? Because when Slimane gets past his obsession with youth tribes, he is Steve Jobs-like in identifying fashion's Next Big Thing.

So, what is that NBT? How about the opposite of fashion overload with a classic wardrobe inspired by the uniformity of the early 1970s? Plaid of corduroy blazers; turtlenecks with leggy jeans or lean pinstriped suits; high-necked, ruffled librarian blouses tucked neatly into culottes or box-pleated skirts; and everything anchored with boots, from mid-shin to mid-thigh.

It's not the first time Slimane (or other designers) has plundered that era, but to his credit, he waas channeling the real #oldceline — the one created by founder Celine Vipiana. We think it will be the start of something new.
