Miuccia Prada has denied claims she slammed her upcoming Costume Institute exhibition.

The designer and Elsa Schiaparelli are the subjects of an upcoming display at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Yesterday, it was reported that Miuccia was unhappy with what was planned.

She allegedly called the exhibit “too formal” and suggested organisers hadn’t taken into account that she and Elsa were “total opposites”.

However, Prada has now released a statement insisting the comments were completely taken out of context.

“Miuccia Prada is honoured and proud to take part in this exhibition which is ‘an impossible conversation between Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli’. The comments printed are taken out of context and therefore misconstrued,” the statement said.

“Mrs. Prada confirmed that she admires the total curatorial independence of the museum to the extent that they almost did not take into consideration her vision.”

The exhibition will include an installation that shows the two fashion powerhouses apparently in conversation with each other. Late designer Elsa was the first to use bright zips and flamboyant buttons in her creations, and she is also known for being the first designer to put on a runway show. Miuccia favours a more minimalist aesthetic, involving clean lines and unfussy cuts.
