Us fashion folks get all excited over the mention of award-winning designer Michael Kors, because he possesses an impeccable instinct for conjuring up designs that are somehow exactly what we want.

Since the American designer’s debut of his first standalone store in Singapore five years ago, the popularity of his brand has soared exponentially: He’s created countless amazing apparel pieces and accessories, all priced at a magical price point that hold their own against other high-end brands.

And now, he’s decided to park the largest flagship store in Southeast Asia in the heart of Singapore. Hurrah!

Not only is it the label’s largest flagship store situated in Southeast Asia – for the record, it spans 7,000 square feet sprawled across two stories – it is also the first store to feature the brand’s menswear line.

In commemoration of this not insubstantial investment, our country has named an orchid of the dendrobium genus after him. He was honoured at the National Orchid Garden in the Singapore Botanic Garden on Monday.

Kor’s long time friend, A-list movie star Kate Hudson, also made her way down to sunny Singapore to attend the grand opening party of the flagship store at Mandarin Gallery the following day.

She arrived a day earlier and was spotted hanging out at one place where we would never imagine: Maxwell food court!

If her hashtag was anything to go by – #Foodieheaven – she seemed to be really enjoying sampling her chilled Tsingtao beer and our local hawker food. Yep, even the A-listers are going local now. #Singaporepride!

We also managed to catch their stunning selves in the flesh at  =the flashy opening party that also saw the attendance of the young and beautiful crowd; think Jessica Gomes, Jeanette Aw, Nathan Hartono, Julie Tan and more.
