Some of us grew up with dreams of being a princess (or at least a member of the royal family and it’s probably because of Disney). But it isn’t as carefree as we think it is. Think about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, who had recently married Prince Harry in an epic wedding earlier this year.

Being a member of the royal family means that Markle’s actions and demeanour must reflect the prestige and regality. We’ve heard that some rules she had to follow include removing her social media presence, no dark nail polishes and no more wedges (what footwear will she wear now if she wants comfort and height?).

While Meghan had to swap her wardrobe to something more befitting of a real-life princess, we are glad she has. Her style has been elevated while remaining timeless and chic, and this change has been widely appreciated. There are Instagram accounts dedicated to her style and even the hashtags #meghanmarklefashion and #meghanmarklestyle have thousands of posts.

Her recent outfit at the Hamilton Musical which she attended with husband Prince Harry caught our eyes. Sporting a Judith & Charles tuxedo dress (which she paired with a black Paul Andrew pump), Meghan exuded nothing but sartorial class. The tuxedo dress was perhaps an homage to her past. After all, Meghan’s rise to fame was her role as paralegal Rachel Zane in American drama Suits.
Of course we had to emulate her style, dressing like a real-life princess might be the closest we get to fulfilling our childhood dream. Here are our top picks:
