Lulu Guinness was “thrilled” when she was asked to collaborate with Uniqlo.

The famed bag designer has created 14 different T-shirts in collaboration with the Japanese store, with the new line launched on April 26.

The pieces all include the patterns Lulu is famous for, such as the iconic lip print. She has discussed why she teamed up with the label.

“I have always wanted to put my designs onto T-shirts, so when Uniqlo approached me about doing a collaboration I was thrilled,” she told vogue.co.uk.

“I have always liked the simplicity of Uniqlo products – they are fantastic for basics and also I love the Heattech range. The brand also chooses intelligent collaborations with designers and I respect their innovation.”

Among the pieces on offer is a top emblazoned with cats’ eyes and one which has a doll on it.

Lulu wanted the line to merge with her own creations, so took extra care when deciding which patterns she would use.

“I looked at my main icons, and also my inspirations for the Lulu Guinness Spring/Summer 2012 collection, and pulled together my favourite designs which I then worked into the T-shirt design,” she explained.

The star hinted she might be working on another exciting project. Although she can’t name what it is, it’s thought she is gearing up to branch out into apparel. © COVER MEDIA
