Kate Bosworth is as well known for her style choices as she is her movies, apparently, so she has now channelled all her fashion knowledge into creating a new fashion app called Style Thief.
Kate has collaborated on the project with Larry Russ, co-owner of specialty retail chain American Rag Cie and Ian Aaron, former president of Gemstar-TV Guide Interactive.
“Everyone has fashion envy. Everyone can relate to that feeling of looking at an editorial, for example – or a friend, or the runway, for that matter – wanting to steal something exactly as you’re seeing it, or something similar,” Kate explained to WWD.
That’s where Kate’s Style Thief comes in. The app allows people to capture a photo of an outfit they like, do an image search and buy it through a couple of clicks. With the current trend for photographing street style, the app hopes customers will “Snap & Steal” the fashion they love, while also tapping into the addictive habit of constantly taking photos on our phones.
“Every time I look at a collaboration, whether it’s with product or an online presence or something like an app, it really is the melding of art and commerce, fashion and tech. Understanding how to refine search for customers is, I think, something on the forefront of tech and fashion,” Kate added.
To attract customers Style Thief will be rolling out a marketing campaign later this year, with TV commercials planned. “Our intention is to be a tool for consumers to find something and ultimately purchase. It’s as easy as that,” Kate smiled.
On the subject of her own style muses, the 31-year-old actress name checked Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and Alexa Chung. She also revealed what trends she’s currently rocking. “A low heel is my friend, for sure. Certainly, that type of Sixties look in shoes, I’m really liking. Pastels are really nice for summer. That kind of idea of a washed out, pretty, powdery pastel,” she said.
