Karl Lagerfeld: Dry shampoo whitens my hairKarl Lagerfeld covers his hair in dry shampoo to make it look white.

The German designer is renowned for his signature aesthetic, which includes black jeans, smart black jackets, white shirts and a lot of punky jewellery.

He always has his white locks brushed back from his face, but has revealed something previously unknown about how he styles them.

“I have my hair done because I hate to have hair in my face when I sketch. My hair is not really white; it’s kind of greyish, and I don’t like the colour. So I make it totally white with Klorane dry shampoo. That is the best thing to do because my hair is always clean,” he told Harpers Bazaar.

Karl knows many people think he has one outfit which he wears constantly.

He actually has five versions of the same Christian Dior coat, so he can always don a fresh ensemble.

His denims also hide a strange secret.

“I wear jeans; at the moment they are from my new collection. They are dark grey with my face, my profile, printed in black on them, but you really have to look at it to see it,” he revealed.

“My dressing room is so full that I can only wear what I see on top of all the racks. I still have all my clothes from ten years ago from Dior, but I think I will give them back to Dior for the museum. I have pieces that are unique pieces that I will never wear again, because life is different now, you know.”

Karl opened up about all aspects of his life in the interview. He only sleeps on white bed linen, which has to be changed every day to ensure it is always pristine.

He also uses half a bottle of his favourite product every time he has a bath and doesn’t bother exercising as his doctor has told him “it’s not necessary”. © COVER MEDIA
