Michelle Obama Jonathan Saunders scarfJonathan Saunders was “honoured” when America’s First Lady Michelle Obama was gifted one of his printed scarves.

The Scottish designer was delighted after learning that Britain’s Prime Minister’s wife Samantha Cameron gave one of his accessories as a present to Michelle during an official state visit to the US.

Jonathan was also thrilled that Samantha had showed support for the British fashion industry.

“I think it was a lovely gesture and an indication of how supportive Samantha Cameron is of British fashion,” Jonathan told Vogue.co.uk. “It’s an honour.”

Jonathan is a fan of Michelle’s personal style. He believes her day-to-day look is reminiscent of his own pieces.

“I think it’s refreshing that Michelle wears pieces that she clearly likes personally. She is in a position to have what she wants, but seems to always support younger and more independent brands,” he explained.

“She has the confidence to wear colour so I’d like to see her in some of the red pieces from my new collection.” © COVER MEDIA
