American fashion designer Jeremy Scott (left) will take over the reins as creative director at Italian fashion house Moschino and his first Moschino collection will be autumn winter 2014, reports WWD.com.

Scott will take over from Rossella Jardini who has been at the helm of the brand for almost 20 years. The American designer, who has a huge influence on American pop culture, seems to be the perfect fit for Moschino’s tongue-in-cheek and irreverent style.

Rihanna, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Madonna and even Korean girl group 2NE1 (leader of the group CL is a personal friend of the designer) are mad for Scott’s designs and his collaborations with adidas Original are always ones to look out for – he gave stuffed teddy bears and wings on sneakers street cred.

On the runway, he sent Lindsey Wixson out in his Autumn Winter 2013 show as a grown-up Big Bird – many fashion insiders loved the look for its editorial appeal. Scott’s Spring Summer 2014 psychedelic collection complete with fun stripes, bouffant wigs and statement-emblazoned tees seemed – in hindsight – to be a lead up to his new gig at Moschino.

Representatives of the fashion house said: “This appointment respects the DNA of the brand as Jeremy Scott represents not only an eclectic and contemporary communicator, but most of all a designer capable of re-interpreting the identity and the essence of Moschino.”
