A no-nonsense black and white outfit is our definite go-to for work, especially if we are strapped for time in the morning. However, after reaching for these tried and tested formulas one too many times, they become a little stale.

But what can a working girl do? There are dress codes to be adhered to and it’s vital that she displays her professionalism through her work clothes. We know how you feel, so we’ve decided to dish out some easy hacks that will help you transform your cliche outfit into something stylish and impressionable.

(Clockwise) Cotton poplin front tie shirt, by $1,135 by Johanna Ortiz from modaoperandi.com; Metal sunglasses,  $453 by Miu Miu from Stylebop; Suede Dionysus bag, $2,380 by Gucci; Crystal dust bangle, $137.60 by Swarovski; Polished leather slingbacks, $836 by Gucci from Net-A-Porter; Polyester tinsel midi skirt, $156 by Topshop

To set your refreshed monochrome outfit apart, we should start with the texture. Swap out your usual streamlined pencil skirt with a midi skirt (so that you don’t have the HR team hot on your heels) and amp it up with a play on materials. The shimmy tinsel helps to give the outfit dimension without it looking too costumey.

Then, go for an on-trend blouse that has some statement sleeves. Keep the material classic with poplin cotton and free of embellishments so that it doesn’t clash with the skirt.

Shoes wise, opt for chic and sophisticated slingback low heels in polished leather. This will keep you comfortable but still give you a little height boost to elongate your legs.

Anchor the entire look with some pastel pink (it’s the favourite colour of the fashion crowd at the moment) and it doesn’t hurt to throw on some sunglasses while you are out and about!
