H&M wants Tom Ford collaborationNEW YORK – As fashion fans eagerly await the release of Versace for H&M later this week, interest has already moved on to who the Swedish high street retailer will partner with next.

Speaking to Bloomberg Businessweek, H&M’s creative adviser Margareta van den Bosch explained that Ford is “a very interesting name.” When asked about the possibility of a partnership, van den Bosch responded; “I can say, I wouldn’t mind.”

However, she confirmed that no contact has yet been made with the designer, whose spokesperson declined to comment on the subject.

The American creator, who made his name as creative director for Gucci and YSL, launched the eponymous Tom Ford brand in 2005.

It now boasts men’s and womenswear, an eyewear license, fragrance line and cosmetics range – earlier this month Ford opened the new Tom Ford Beauty boutique at US department store Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

A high street clothing line from the creator would be particularly significant, as he is famed for his closed shows which ban photography and aim to prevent his designs being reproduced.

The H&M affordable designer ranges began in 2004 with Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld creating a capsule collection. They have since partnered with fashion houses including Sonia Rykiel, Stella McCartney and Lanvin.

Other retailers to have helped bring haute couture to the masses include US department stores Target and Macy’s, which last month launched the Giambattista Valli for Macy’s Impulse range in Manhattan, New York.

Versace for H&M finally reaches around 300 stores internationally and online on November 17, although shoppers in North America will need to wait until November 19. — AFP RELAXNEWS
