We reported about Gucci unveiling its new façade but this Tuesday was an even better day – Frida Giannini, Gucci’s Creative Director herself, made an appearance at the official store opening.
The place was packed, of course – with media and guests who made the special effort to wear their best Gucci clothes.
The interior of the store was beautiful, by the way, and matched the glamorous exterior perfectly – and we took it all in as we walked up the stairs. The flashing of lightbulbs at the end of the room could only mean one thing – that Frida was there, and we snaked our way to the front to bring you these pictures:
The official store opening cocktail party was hosted by Frida Giannini and Gucci President and CEO Patrizio di Marco. At this opening cocktail, Frida was presented with the Paravanda Frida, a beautiful hybrid orchid, by Ms Aw Kah Peng, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board.
Named after the designer herself, it’s featured on the limited edition Paravanda Frida Boston bag and Paravanda Frida Wristlet which are in stores now. 100% of the sales of the Boston Bag will go towards the Mainly I Love Kids fund that helps children from troubled communities.
Taiwanese actor Joe Cheng (pictured above, who’s best known for his role in It Started With A Kiss opposite actress Ariel Lin), local actors Dai Yangtian (Little Nonya, anyone?), Yvonne Lim (last seen in long-running serial Your Hand In Mine) and Christopher Lee’s other half, Fann Wong were also there mingling, nonchalant to the excited guests that were trying to get a glimpse of Frida Giannini.
About half an hour later, she was whisked away by burly bodyguards, probably to get ready for the very exclusive gala dinner she was hosting that same night. Held at the Capella Resort, only 180 guests were invited and Frida also presented MILK President Dr. Sherlyn Mah with a further donation of an undisclosed amount on Gucci’s behalf, staying true to their commitment to philanthropy – the brand is also currently working with UNICEF.
