For the first time ever, both our print and online teams at HerWorld collaborated with Guardian for the Guardian Health & Beauty Awards. Together with our sister publications Shape and Cleo, the very best drugstore products across categories such as cosmetics, hair care and oral care were honoured in a grand affair on May 12. Besides public voting, the partnership with Her World, herworldPLUS, Shape and Cleo meant that the teams came up with a list of insiders’ picks so you can shop at ease with that extra stamp of approval.

The joyous occasion was held at the Flower Field Hall nestled within the Flower Dome in Gardens by the Bay, complete with enchanting LED lights and the laugh-a-minute jocular talent of Gurmit Singh as the master of ceremony.

In celebration of health and beauty, we did a quick poll with the guests to share with us what beauty means to them in just a couple of words, and we sure hope you gain some #MondayMotivation – click play on the video above to see what they have to say.

As for what went down at the event, besides the presentation of awards while guests tucked into a scrumptious four-course luncheon prepared by Mandarin Oriental, there were much insights to be gleaned during the expert sharing session.

Guardian pharmacist Lim Mei Ling shared with us some health and beauty tips, like keeping your skincare regimen as simple as possible with just a mild cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. She emphasised the importance of a healthy diet: “Avoid foods high in fats and fine sugar as they will speed up the aging process and wrinkle formation. Go for whole grains, eat fresh and drink lots of water.”

Want a glow from within? Shape writer Dawn Chen recommended eating well, sleeping well and exercising, pointing to the concept of active beauty with quick lunchtime gym classes. “There are so many products on the market now that are innovative and support the idea of active beauty,” she said, like sunscreen and cleansing wipes, which help us transition from work to workout more easily.

The experts agreed that the digital trend has influenced the way we consume beauty. Her World’s senior beauty editor Simone Wu said it’s much easier now to know about product launches and go online for reviews, like herworldPLUS’ Beauty 9 to 5.

Last but not least, local a cappella group Vocaluptuous, who have performed at the SEA Games and opened for Elton John, among many others, delighted the audience with a range of upbeat tunes – way to close the ceremony with fanfare.
