Looks like the rumours were right after all. Gossip girl star Blake Lively has just been officially announced as the new face of Chanel.
She will represent Chanel’s new line of “Mademoiselle” handbags – the iconic quilted bags that the fashion house is famous for. According to Chanel, Blake Lively was hand-picked by the Kaiser, Karl Largerfeld, for her ‘fresh, youthful image and her innate sense of fashion’.
That sentence certainly encapsulates what Blake is all about. Adored by girls everywhere for her easy, spontaneous sense of style that she portrays so well as Serena van der Woodsen in the hit television series Gossip Girl, she’s certainly no lightweight.
Blake Lively’s acting career began at the tender age of eleven when her director father, Ernie Lively cast her as Trixie the tooth fairy in the 1998 movie The Sandman. Before her big break as Serena, Blake acted in a series of small roles, such as Bridget Vreeland in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.
She certainly has come a long way since then. While in Paris on a shoot in July 2010, Blake attended the Chanel fashion show for the very first time and was introduced to Karl Lagerfeld. Almost immediately, they hit it off and she was thus chosen as an ambassador for Chanel.
“It is an honour to be selected by Karl Lagerfeld to represent the new line of “Mademoiselle” handbags,” the blonde starlet said when asked about her appointment.
The 23-year-old added that despite being the face of the “Mademoiselle” line, she will carry it like any other girl, “I will always feel it’s more than just a purse. It’s a quilted case full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt everytime I see that beautiful CC.”
While the ad campaign is likely to only be unveiled in March, we think the buzz surrounding her being named as Karl Lagerfeld’s muse will be publicity enough for the brand.
The new Mademoiselle bag line appeared in Chanel’s 2011 cruise collection and retails at USD$2,000-$3,300 for the basic range.
