Givenchy’s Paris Fashion Week show boasted an equestrian theme. Riccardo Tisci’s Autumn Winter 2012 display began with a beautiful light instillation, with white and red beams shining across the runway as drums were played in the background. The sound was not dissimilar to the noise horses make when they are running, which was fitting once the models hit the stage.

The women wore slick riding boots which stopped at just above the knee. They came in black and tan and were the perfect accompaniment to the short skirts and flared trousers which were also on display.

“Tisci’s signature acute tailoring came first with variations on riding jackets done in slick combinations of pony hair, fur and leather that were placed on precise panels,” reports WWD. Also making their way down the runway were jodhpurs paired with blazers, sometimes boasting pretty piping for a fashion edge.

Leather was another big look, as it’s been on most of the runways this season. Givenchy included hot pants carved from the fabric, as well as dresses with fitted bodices and flared skirts. Many coats and jackets also included leather, whether made from the animal hide totally or just including accents in it.

Colour wise the palette was largely black and brown, with splashes of orange and red ensuring things didn’t get boring. When it came to eveningwear, long dresses were eschewed for pieces which were more inspired by sleepwear. So dresses were short and silky, with camisole tops featuring lace detailing.  © COVER MEDIA/ IMAGES: SHOWBIT
