Maison Martin Margiela Replica fragrancesThe fashion and beauty industry is intimately and inevitably connected.

Hair, makeup and nails are created for each season’s shows to complement and enhance the looks of the clothes and no fashion house is complete – or financially successful – without at least one fragrance.

Martin Margiela knows this and has created not one but three new fragrances inspired by Maison Martin Margiela’s interest in vintage clothes and accessories.

Replica is a name Maison Martin Margiela has given to a collection of clothing and accessories and now, three original fragrances.

“For our newest fragrance collection, we wanted to play with a concept that has been present in the Maison since 1994, when we decided to inject a capsule of garments and accessories into the collections, every season, entitled Replica,” he said.

Replica refers not to an imitation or a recreation as one might think – it refers to an original idea of timelessness, according to the designer.

“We had the idea that we could try to make each garment relevant for today and even tomorrow,” he says.

“In terms of the three Replica fragrances, the process was somewhat different. It was more a process of elaborating scents that we all remember and to recreate them in a modern way.”

The three fragrances Flower Market, Beach Walk and Funfair Evening will be launched later this year.

They take their inspiration from Paris 2011, Calvi 1972 and Santa Monica 1994 respectively.

The fragrances are created in collaboration with perfumers Jacques Cavallier and Marie Salamagne. © Cover Media
