PARIS FASHION WEEK – Elie Saab’s collection for Spring Summer 2012 was a fitting end to the recent series of Fashion Weeks, taking in many of the biggest trends around.

Paris has become known for its monochrome collections, and Saab showed several white pieces but shied away from making the whole collection in either white or black; it was where colour was used that the collection really shined.

A series of bright yellow frocks shimmered and shone as they came down the runway. Some were tight and others featured flowing chiffon skirts, but all fell to the floor.

The bodices were fitted and overlayed with shimmering fabric, with some featured deep V necklines and others demurely covering the chest all the way to the neck. Bold thigh-high splits added a couple of glamour, as did the fishtail skirts.

Yellow is notoriously hard to wear, so for those not feeling brave enough there were sparkly emerald green gowns and deep purple ones.

In green there was a mini-dress, made of sequins and boasting elbow-length sleeves to keep things chic.

The maxi gowns really stood out though. They were clinched at the waist to give shape, then clung to hips before pooling at the floor. The shimmer chiffon and intricate beading, sometimes over mesh, made them the perfect choice for eveningwear.

Blue frocks were also beautiful, coming in matte versions – again with plunging necklines and thigh-high splits. One version was off the shoulder, covered in shiny beadwork and featured a skinny belt.

Other trends included on the catwalk were lacework and pleats on dresses, as well as the occasional pussy bow at the neck. © COVER MEDIA
