Daniel Boey is probably Singapore’s best known ‘fashionista’ … He was a fashionista before the word even existed! Now Daniel’s become Singapore’s ‘Godfather of fashion’, sharing his love of fashion and years of experience by once again gracing the modelling show Asia’s Next Top Model (AsNTM) in the just launched Season 4.

To say this was a surprising announcement is an understatement considering Daniel came out publicly and vehemently AGAINST the show after not being paid for the work he did on its first season. According to a report in The New Paper on March 8, 2016, Daniel is still owed ‘half his agreed wages by Ice-TV, the production company behind the first season’ of AsNTM.
“I've always said I would only return if the formula was right. And the time is now,” explained Daniel. “The show has now got a bona fide cast of true fashion professionals led by a real supermodel. And a production team that has finally put the ‘Asia’ back into Asia's Next Top Model without having the need to pepper the show with some rather questionable foreign imports.
“Asia's Next Top model is not just about the discovery and nurture of the next top Asian face, but also a celebration of the best Asian fashion creatives, from designers to photographers to directors. And it's a family I am absolutely delighted to be a part of,” says Daniel.
Right. So now that’s out of the way … What does Singapore’s first fashionista and discoverer of a number of major Singapore fashion models actually think about Singapore entrant Miss Angela ‘Angie’ Watkins?

“I first worked with Angie on the New Paper New Face competition. Just another pan-Asian face, I thought, but a diamond in the rough, nonetheless,” says Daniel. "... but she worked hard, absorbed everything she was taught, and shone. So it was a pleasant surprise to reunite with a much improved Angie on the set, one that was brimming with confidence and an amazing presence.
“She rose to the occasion, applied everything she learnt and more than held her own with the best new faces of the region. She flew the Singapore flag high and proud. I thought Aimee (Cheng-Bradshaw) had set an impossibly high bar for our local reps in [AsNTM] Cycle 3, but Angie was a very worthy successor.”
So there you go … The Godfather of fashion’s stamp of approval on Singapore’s Next Top Model! :)
