Longchamp’s Le Pliages get a super cute update but that doesn’t mean it loses out in function: the Travel Bag on the left has a zipped outer pocket for a passport and plain tickets. At $1,500 and the Le Pliage on the right at $790.

We might be exaggerating but a majority of Chinese New Year designer goods have followed this routine: a product is changed into an auspicious colour, the year’s Zodiac animal is slapped on it, and it goes straight to the shop floor.

A smaller snout with these too-cute pouches – it’s front snout flap fits coins perfectly. At $390.

But if there’s one person who obviously understands the trifecta of it bag design when it comes to the festive season: functionality (you’re going to want to actually be able to put things inside), design (are you able to carry it beyond Chinese New Year?) and Instagramability (How else would you rake in the likes?), it’s Tao Liang, aka Mr.Bags with his second collaboration with Longchamp.

An homage to the Le Pliage Aquarium, a Le Pliage released in 1998 with a fish swimming inside it; Mr. Bag’s rendition has a snout-shaped coin purse inside of it. At $590.

Just in time for Chinese New Year (the collection launches on January 7 2019), the brand’s iconic bags like the Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir top handle and travel bags get a distinctly porcine update: a curly tail on the front; a pair of pointy ears and eyes on the back; and under the bag’s flap, a tiny graphic fart.

Is it guaranteed to pass the scrutinising eyes of your family members? We’re pretty sure. It is an “it-bag” worthy to be carried throughout the year and into the next? We guarantee it.

The Mr.Bags x Longchamp collection is available in stores come January 7th 2019.
