The fashion world has been flooded with a sea of sportswear-inspired pieces in the past few seasons. But even against the seemingly overwhelming tide of sweatshirts, one fashion label has managed to stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Mother of Pearl is the brainchild of Maia Norman and has been designed by Amy Powney since 2010. The key to the brand’s design DNA is luxury sportswear that spills over with colour and print, unlike the minimalistic take that other designers have a penchant for when it comes to sports-inspired pieces.

Each season, the duo teams up with an artist to create new prints. Young emerging British artists like Mat Collishaw and Gary Hume have collaborated with Mother of Pearl and even taxidermist Polly Morgan has lent her work with stuffed dead animals to the brand’s silk T-shirts.

The label is going places – Mother of Pearl will be showing its Autumn Winter 2014 collection for the first time at the upcoming London Fashion Week. While we do have to wait to see what both Norman and Powney have lined up for the runway and news of their latest artist collaborator, we don’t have to wait to get our paws on Mother of Pearl’s Resort 2014 collection.

The new pieces are stocked in Singapore at multi-label store Club 21b. This season, London-based Biggs and Collings lent their signature geometric shapes and fun colours to Mother of Pearl’s collection. Bold pique stripes, playful embellishments and floral prints make for an eclectic but wearable selection.

Mother of Pearl is available at Club 21b at #01-07/08/09, Forum the Shopping Mall. For more information on Mother of Pearl, go to www.motherofpearl.co.uk.
