First seen on the Spring/Summer ‘18 runways from Chanel to Mansur Gavriel, round bags have slowly been making their mark in the fashion world.

Even the Duchess of Sussex couldn’t keep away – Meghan Markle has been seen toting Chloe’s version, the Pixie bag.

Spotted on the FW’18 and SS’19 runways, we reckon that these disc-shaped creations are only set to become a bigger trend with newer iterations from brands like Zimmermann, Chanel and Oscar de la Renta.

Zimmermann indulged in the growing animal print trend with snake embossed leather, while Chanel took a softer approach by using velvet. Finally, as expected from the couturier who made their name with red carpet ready gowns, Oscar de la Renta went bejewelled with their velvet and crystal creation.

But you don’t have to look far or pay top dollars to get a quality round bag.

Under the creative helm of Pepe Torres, who had formerly headed the design teams at brands like Burberry, Loewe and Mango, household label Bonia has been ahead of the curve with their introduction of the Sonia collection since 2015.

This iconic round bag was first conceived after a collaboration with Taiwanese actress Sonia Sui and it has since been a fan favourite.

If you’re looking to add drama and statement to your wardrobe, Bonia’s latest iteration of the Sonia bag, the Teatro, is set to satisfy your needs:

Design elements of the Teatro, above, takes inspiration from the architectural and interior detailing elements from one of the oldest opera houses in Europe, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Italy.

Not only does the form echo the proscenium opera stage, colourways pay homage to the opulent furnishings while pearl and mushroom studs echo the lighting.

After something smaller?

We are positing you to add the bag’s smaller, more hip sister: Sonia teatro in S:

Sonia teatro in S size, $420, available in red, dark coffee, orchid and burnt green

Available in two sizes, S ($420) and M ($630), the bags are made croc-embossed calf leather, while fur charms and golden tassels add a luxurious yet playful feel. Bonus: The bags are sold with a strap which means that you can go hands-free (unlike most clutches) and wear them as a shoulder or crossbody.
