Balenciaga is the latest fashion house to shake up the industry’s traditional schedule, announcing its move to a combined men’s and women’s runway show, starting in March at Paris Fashion Week. The label, helmed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, will remain present at Paris Men’s Fashion Week with the presentation of a pre-collection from January 2018.
After Kenzo, Bottega Veneta, Gucci and, more recently, Salvatore Ferragamo, Balenciaga is the latest fashion house to merge its men’s and women’s collection presentations into a single co-ed show. The label will stage its first combined show at Paris Fashion Week in March for the Fall/ Winter 2018-2019 season.
Still, Balenciaga won’t be turning its back on the French capital’s Men’s Fashion Week. The label has also announced the launch of a menswear pre-collection, expected to be shown by appointment, from January 2018.
Combined menswear and womenswear shows have become increasingly common in the fashion world over the last two years. Burberry was the first brand to go co-ed, announcing the fusion of its men’s and women’s collections in 2016. Since then, labels including Kenzo, Coach, Vivienne Westwood, Moschino, Calvin Klein, Paul Smith and Saint Laurent have also switched to similar formats.
