Rock ‘n’ roll was the spirit of the night at the Swarovski Kingdom of Jewels Fall Winter 2012 runway show, with invited guests suiting up in studs, leather, black sequins and silver chains piled high.
There were high expectations for the show from the start as last year’s presentation really blew the audience away. And true enough, the AW12 show, held on day three of Audi Fashion Festival 2012, was more than just a typical runway show. It was a concert and a fashion show rolled into one.
The first thing guests noticed when they were seated was that there was a live band positioned at the top of the runway. Some people even wondered out loud if they were going to play while the models strutted down the runway.
The show finally began when all the guests were seated, and models decked out in ‘rock chick’ outfits came down the runway, with tasteful, appropriate pieces of jewellery from the Swarovski FW’12 collection adorning their necks, arms and fingers.
It was heartening that Swarovski did not opt to give all the models the same outfit so as to let the jewellery shine, but instead chose to make each look a cohesive one that blended seamlessly with the pieces showcased.
It is a stunning collection for sure; there was an art deco-like statement necklace chock-full of emerald-cut crystals in blue, green, black and white, as well as the surprisingly named Singapour set comprising of a tasseled scarf necklace with red crystals dangling on gold chains worn under a more prominent necklace from the same set.
The lights dimmed for a minute after the first few looks, and the band began to play, accompanying the rest of the outfits and models down the runway with their bass-thumping tunes.
When the last of the looks headed back up the runway, the band officially took over the stage, transforming what had been a fashion runway into a rock concert complete with flashing coloured lights that danced across the venue. What a show indeed!
