SYDNEY – Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) Autumn Winter 2014-15 in Sydney just wrapped up highlighting the best that Australian fashion has to offer. With pastels, vibrant colour, head-to-toe white, sultry crop tops and sheer texturing trending on the runway there were four Australian designers who stood out from the crowd.
Maticevski at MBFWA was punk elegance at its finest, Australia’s own Christian Dior meets Alexander McQueen. Full of edge and modern refinery the designer Toni Maticevski explored full skirts, mesh panels and texturing, ruffles, expert draping, floral and geometric prints plus pops of bright orange to make you swoon.
MICHAEL LO SORDO
Michael Lo Sordo’s classic designs have skyrocketed him to young designer stardom. His use of flowing silks, fluid shapes and a skilled sense of the female silhouette perfectly embodied the collection’s boyish femininity. Filled with pastel gelati colours, he contrasts this softer edge with fierce textured crops and biker jackets.
Alice McCall transported us to a dream world of shimmering sparkles, soft sorbets and surreal prints. Bridging the gap between fantasy and reality McCall’s sweetly flirtatious and expertly crafted designs explored sweetheart rompers, scalloped hemlines, delicate frills, sculpted silhouettes and fluted neoprene.
BEC & BRIDGE
Bec & Bridge’s MBFWA collection translates an earthy and adventurous spirit through their wearable and trendy designs. Staying true to designers Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston’s travelling inspiration, the collection was filled with textured linen, hand-dyed silks, checks and stripes, light denim, fitted and fluid silhouettes and a hint of bohemia.
