As makeup trends start getting darker and heavier this October, Korean girls have found the perfect in-between shade that’s on-trend and actually suitable for work.
While there’s no fixed term for the shade, it’s usually referred to as a dried rose or a variation of 2015’s colour of the year marsala. But if that confuses you, just remember this: It’s a muted, muddy brick red that, depending on the product, can sometimes have a pink, plum or a black tinge to it.
This allows the shade to be used for many occasions – a plum-like rose for a night out or a pink-tinted one for work – which is why we absolutely love the trend.
Here are three easy ways to wear the colour:
#1 A GRADIENT LIP FOR THE OFFICE
Korean beauty blogger Lee Sujin uses a “sunset marsala” to create a gradient lip we think would be perfect for the office. Tone down the eyes and use a glittery beige or bronze shadow instead if you find the look a little intimidating.

#2 AS AN EYESHADOW BASE FOR A SIMPLE WEEKEND LOOK
Here’s one that’s great for a chill weekend out with friends. Korean beauty vlogger Lamuqe uses a satin lip pencil as a cream eyeshadow base for brown and beige-gold glitter eyeshadows, creating an overall natural bronze eye look. You can wear this to the office, too.

#3 BOLD LIPS AND LIGHTLY FLUSHED CHEEKS FOR A PARTY
Bookmark this glamorous makeup look for reference when the company d&ds, christmas and year-end parties start rolling in. Korean beauty vlogger Ood wears the colour as a statement lip, then lightly accentuates the eyes by wearing the shade on the outer corners. Finally, for a little healthy flush, she dabs on a hint of marsala blusher on the cheeks.
