Although we typically look forward to the latest clothing trends or the season’s hottest ‘It’ bags from the runway, shoes are indefinitely just as anticipated – and this year has brought us some of the weirdest and most peculiar pairs of shoes we’ve seen. However, from cheerful rainbow fur heels to humourous mismatched shoes, they’re all still charming in their own unique ways. Without further ado, here are our picks of the most unusual shoes from New York Fashion Week we can definitely get on board with.

We are in love with Alexander Wang’s reinvention of the classic ankle-boot moccasins. The use of jump ring embellishments on the neutral-hued booties is unexpected and fashion-forward. We can see this moccasin trend becoming a future wardrobe must-have in the fast fashion market.

We don’t know what we love most about these shoes: Is it the pom-poms? The thick sporty sole? The different piping colours along the straps? These sandals from Desigual caught our eye for their funky and quirky appeal. The bright colours and experimental textures make them charming in their own way.

These shoes caught our attention for their strangely-positioned thick straps and chunky wooden heel. We’re not quite sure how to label them under – perhaps a hybrid of your conventional mules and clogs? No matter: We dig them all the same.

We absolutely adore this pair of booties from Rag & Bone. The first thing that came to our minds when we saw them? Those “silky neckties” we often see on dapper suit-wearing businessmen. The red and white stripes pop nicely against the dark blue background, and if we could purchase items immediately off the runway, these will be the first on our list.

We always love a good pair of stylish and wearable platform sandals – and these look like they fit the description perfectly. Chunky soles are the way to go if you want to avoid the pain of wearing stilettos while still getting that little boost of height. The colour-blocking and grommet-like fixtures also give the sandals an artsy look that we’re digging right now.

This pair of studded spiked leather creepers are from – you best believe it – Coach. They brought punk back to the runway with their Spring 2017 collection and these definitely stole the show (for us, at least). We always appreciate a homage to fads from the past, especially if they’re done well – like these creepers!

These sneaker boots from DKNY are a fresh addition to to on-going athleisure trend, which sees no sign of abating anytime soon. We love the minimalist details on the clean all-white sneaker boots – we can totally see your favourite fashionistas strutting in these boots.

If you think you’re seeing double, you’re wrong. These boots from Hood by Air are actually two-way cowboy boots! Its sheer outrageousness is what intrigued us about these boots in the first place. After all, they’re not Hood by Air if they’re not outrageous.

When we first saw these making its way down the runway, we thought it was a wardrobe mishap. But then one after the other, models continued strutting down the runway in mismatched shoes. We were confused at first, but after a third or fourth viewing, we actually kind of like it. The oddity is very Thom Browne, and makes the shoes rather fascinating in their own right.

Rainbow ombre fur on heels? Yes, please! Seeing these fur pieces drag down the catwalk immediately brightened up our day. The colourful texture is a fun and fresh take on Spring 2017 trends instead of the same old florals – so not ground-breaking. (That’s a The Devil Wears Prada reference, FYI.)
