Over the last two months, rehearsals and preparation have been relentless for the 20 finalists involved in The New Paper New Face’s 2015 modelling competition. On Thursday 1 October, a well-deserving winner was crowned queen of the catwalk at Takashimaya Square, 22 year old Selynna Norhisham.

The administrative manager actually waited 5 years to take part in the contest, as she previously didn’t want to disrupt her studies at Singapore Polytechnic. With her pixie cut and uber cool attitude, Selynna definitely stood out amongst the other long-haired and leggy contestants. She was raised by her mother, Madam Zuriah and is a real home-loving girl. She stated that she would be taking her close-knit family group out for a seafood dinner post-competition. We love a girl who is down to earth and truly values those who support her!
Over the last two months, the finalists have received coaching from the best in the business, ranging from runway walk mentorship from Singapore’s first international model Ethel Fong to make-up tips from MAC Pro senior make-up artist Beno Lim (who was also on the judging panel) and our very own Her World Beauty Club presidents, Eugene Quek and Carina Koh.

There was also another new face that emerged on top last night, Her World Runway Star winner and runner-up R Nametha, aged 17. Our Deputy Editor Justin Cheong noted that though she had no previous modelling experience, she worked the runway like a pro: “Her walk is confident and her proportions are model-perfect. In all three runway segments, she wore the clothes - whether denim or goth-inspired - extremely well. A deserving Her World Runway Star winner indeed!”

Velda Tan, a finalist of The New Paper New Face 2006 and founder and fashion designer behind Collate The Label said of this year’s winner: “It was definitely a tough fight but Selynna’s personality came out during her walk.” Overall, both winners are the embodiment of everything Her World stands for: stylish, modern women in-the-making who stay true to who they are.
Look out for Her World’s upcoming print spread with the winning ladies! Another favourite, unique local face of ours is Nadia Rahmat, (yes, that Marc Jacobs girl) see why we love her here, and read exclusive interviews with other Singapore stars, such as fitness guru Georgina Poh, here.
