RULE TO BREAK:
DO SOME SOCIAL-MEDIA SLEUTHING
Leave him as a “mystery man” until your first date. More isn’t merrier when it comes to the amount of information you can dig out online, prior to meeting him. Some men may not be social-media savvy, despite having great personalities – don’t miss out on this lot! Let the guy (not his Facebook page or Instagram feed) do the talking, before you decide if he makes the cut.

RULE TO BREAK:
DATE IN A PACK
Go solo. Less is more when it comes to the dating game. It’s far less intimidating for a guy to approach you when you’re not not surrounded by your giggling girlfriends. Plus, if your girlfriend is having a bad night, she might dampen your mood (or worse, make you leave early) and ruin your chances of getting to know that hottie across the bar.

RULE TO BREAK:
DRAFT A PRE-DATE CHECKLIST
Chuck the list. He’s asking you for a date – not your hand in marriage. Always give him the benefit of the doubt by agreeing to a first date, so you have the chance to meet and get to know him face to face. In fact, give him the privilege of a second date even if you’re not that into him yet, so long as he doesn’t creep you out. By giving him more chances, you’re giving yourself more chances too!

RULE TO BREAK:
GET THREE DAYS’ NOTICE FOR A DATE
Be spontaneous. (But it doesn’t mean being at his beck and call.) He might have to travel frequently for work, or attend to last-minute crises in the office, so when the opportunity to meet up presents itself, seize it. Likewise, feel free to drop him a coffee call if you’re nearby. After all, waiting for a guy to make the first move is so last century.
