WHAT IS IT?

Lip products are always trending in Korea, but do you know what’s really hot right now? It’s the liquid lipstick.

We’ve seen our fair share of liquid lipsticks launched in 2014. These gloss and lipstick hybrids are said to give you the same pigmented colour of a lipstick, but with a more muted sheen of a gloss.

The trend is back again this season in South Korea, and almost every makeup brand in the country has a new range of liquid lipsticks or tints coming out this March.

One of the first ones you’ll be able to find in Singapore is Etude House’s Colours in Liquid Lips, which comes in 20 shades for you to choose from. Want to get really “Korean”? Go for girly shades like coral OR201 or pink PK006.

If you prefer tints, try Too Cool For School’s Glossy Blaster Tint. Edgy purple is great for those with more cool-toned skin, but stick to the safe Chic Red if you find the colour too OTT for you.

HOW TO WEAR IT

New product launches aside, it’s the finish that I’m absolutely loving – lips look healthy and hydrated, but not overly glossy.

While most ad campaigns from the brands show the models with a full-on glossy lip, it’s a lot more wearable when you do it this way: Dot the colour in the middle of your lips and smack them together, to create a natural, gradient lip effect. Repeat it one more time if you want to sport a stronger lip.

As liquid lipsticks tend to be more moisturising, the look is more forgiving on dry and chapped lips than the traditional gradient lip, which leans more matte.

And even if liquid lipsticks aren’t really your thing, you can still ride this K-Wave by using a moisturising lipstick that’s packed with colour.
