Behold! My beauty idol, an avowed non-user of tinted moisturiser

Beauty buddies, brace yourselves for a bit of bad news. Tinted moisturisers of every stripe and shade are damaging to your dermis – that is, if Kylie Jenner’s skin doctor is to be believed.

Wait, what? Take it from Beverly Hills-based dermatological doyenne Dr Christie Kidd, who told Kylizzle in a filmed segment on her self-titled site: “Tinted moisturisers are designed to absorb deep in the layers of your skin to hydrate your skin and protect it, but it’s bringing all that pigment with it,” she warns. “That’s going to break you out.” Translation: The multi-purpose nature of a tinted tincture is ironically the very cause of its undoing, because you’re driving all of the pore-congesting detritus deep into your skin. Bummer.

Now, speaking as a diehard devotee of the delightfully dewy “nude” finish afforded by a sheer layer of tinted moisturiser, this may rank as the most terrifying tidbit yet. I mean, a lightweight lotion is quite literally the “foundation” of any modern makeup routine: Slap it on to even out your canvas and you’re done with your skin. So easy … and so potentially pore-clogging!

What to do, what to do? Perhaps Kylie’s go-to dermatologist has a point in separating your makeup from your skincare, so if you’re a fan of Kylie’s Krazily Kontoured mask-like mien, by all means go wild with the warpaint – just remember to take it all off at the end of the day.

Cleanliness is next to gorgeousness!

A little birdie tells us our #BeautyIdol of the hour strips off with a carefully curated trio of pore-purging poultices, all courtesy of Kiehl’s: Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser ($48), Rare Earth Pore Refining Tonic ($58) and the Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser ($45). I can certainly vouch for the Daily Cleanser for one, which does a fantastic job of flushing out the day’s dirt and debris. Simply daub on this detoxifying powerhouse, kick back your kitten heels for 10 minutes or so, then splash off for wobbly tofu skin.

Cleansing best practices aside, it’s your call as to whether the convenience and comfort of a tinted moisturiser is worth the potential pimples involved. And hey, you know the drill: Spill the #deets if there are any tinted products that work for you. Good luck!
