Watch: Her World’s beauty editor goes for an Ultherapy treatment review.

It’s common knowledge that ageing can take a toll on your skin; coupled with the effects of gravity, facial features start to sag, migrating southwards. We found that this sagging can also cause our face to look flabby, making us look like we’ve put on weight. Horror!

The good news is that there are options to turn back the hands of time. We tried a highly sought-after skin lifting and tightening treatment that helps the skin to regain that youthful and supple bounce in a natural, non-invasive way. After watching the video of our beauty editor’s review of Ultherapy, read on to find out more.

A facelift without going under the knife

Dr Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics was the doctor who performed the Ultherapy treatment for our beauty editor’s review.

Ultherapy is available at various certified medical clinics and can only be administered by trained doctors. We headed to Radium Medical Aesthetics at Suntec City to see Dr Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics, for our treatment. Dubbed the non-invasive facelift, Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, effectively lifting and tightening the skin as a result. Dr Siew explained that Ultherapy is the one and only U.S FDA cleared non-invasive skin lifting treatment, backed by scientific evidence from many clinical trials. Another amazing fact he shared – to date, over one million Ultherapy treatments have been performed all over the world, attesting to its safety and efficacy.

We had a one-on-one consultation with Dr Siew where he made an assessment of the areas of the face to treat; and where we had the chance to ask him questions about the treatment process, duration and the pain factor (we’re pain-phobes!). Then we popped pain relief pills to help manage the pain, got our face cleansed and numbing cream was applied for half an hour before we were ready for Ultherapy.

In the treatment room, Dr Siew showed us how Ultherapy is the only skin tightening and lifting system with real-time ultrasound imaging. This allows the doctor to see the layers of tissue that are being targeted, thus ensuring that micro-focused ultrasound energy is safely delivered to where it is most beneficial. In short, it is surgical precision without having to go under the knife, so you get safe, natural and effective results.

The treatment was mostly bearable. We could feel heat being delivered deeper into the skin so it’s not a surface hotness but rather, within the skin, which is an unusual sensation. Areas closer to the bone were more sensitive to the heat and thus felt slightly more painful; these included the jawline and brow bone. When we felt uncomfortable and voiced it out, Dr Siew was able to pause or even adjust the intensity so that it was less painful. In about 30 minutes, the treatment was over and we were left looking none the different from before the session. No redness at all, just a faint sensation of soreness around the face.

Which areas can be treated and how soon can you see results?

This hardworking treatment can treat skin on the neck, under the chin and over the brow for sagging and loss of firmness, and even can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. As Dr Siew explained, it works by targeting the deep structural layers of the skin to boost tissue repair and stimulate new collagen production, firming and plumping it from within for a natural lifting effect.

Ultherapy promises best results in two to three months. On week six, we already noticed visibly firmer skin and more defined facial contours. And possibly the best news yet – just one session of Ultherapy is all it takes for results lasting at least 12 – 18 months.
