With the year-end festivities coming up, we’re sure that you’ve got a lot of invitations lined up for parties and meet-ups.

But with all the partying and merry-making, and having to still head into the office the next day, it can take its toll on your skin.

We ask three beauty experts to share their personal tips on how to keep skin looking fresh and radiant even when you’re feeling like death itself.

BEFORE BED

1. Drink loads of water

We know the rule of thumb to drink at least a full glass of water before bed, especially when you’ve been drinking throughout the night.

This ensures that you stay hydrated — inside and out — after all that eating, drinking and partying.

For an extra boost, makeup artist Larry Yeo recommends popping an antioxidant tablet as well to help replenish the body with antioxidants since drinking alcohol can put a strain on your liver, which in turn decreases the amount of glutathione — one of the body’s most important antioxidants.

In addition, alcohol also has a diuretic effect that causes the body to lose essential minerals like magnesium. Thus, replenishing these necessary antioxidants and minerals after a night of merry-making can definitely help prevent that awful hangover when you wake.

Try:

Renovatio An Apple A Day Activated Phenolics, $42 (bottle of 30 tablets)

Derived from apples, as they’re said to contain the highest proportion of free phenolic antioxidants, these tablets are able to neutralise the damage and inflammation caused by a wide of free radicals, keeping you healthy and energised.

2. Remove all makeup

Yes, it can be a pain when it’s the last thing you want to do because all you want to do is crash into bed.

But makeup artist Yuan Sng says that proper cleansing is a must because sleeping with makeup on can result in clogged pores, breakouts and, dry and dehydrated skin.

For a quick and thorough cleanse, he suggests using a facial cleansing device to remove all that gunk with ease.

Try:

Foreo Luna 2, $319

This cleansing device uses up to 8,000 T-Sonic pulsations to dislodge dirt trapped in the pores while lifting away makeup from the skin to reveal a cleaner and clearer complexion.

In addition, it can also be used to massage the skin, improve the absorption of skincare and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles too. Comes in four variants for different skin types — Oily, Combination, Sensitive and Normal.

3. Hydrate the skin

When skin is well-moisturised, it looks smooth, supple and radiant.

So to prevent it from looking worse for wear after a late night out, slather your skin with a nourishing moisturiser before heading to bed.

Or as makeup artist Lolent Lee recommends, opt for a leave-in mask that will repair and rejuvenate the skin as you sleep.

Try:

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, $86

Enriched with a blend of six rare African oils together with plantain and green tea extracts, and omega acids, this intensive moisturiser not only hydrates but also protects against free radical damages for a youthful and radiant complexion.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask, $565

An overnight mask enriched with caviar extracts to boost skin’s firmness and elasticity. It also contains a unique natural exfoliation enzyme technology that improves skin’s texture while you snooze so you wake to a velvety-smooth and glowing complexion.

THE MORNING AFTER

1. Roll away the puffiness with a beauty tool

This not only helps boost lymphatic drainage but also boosts circulation so you look less puffy by the time you leave the house and head out to the office.

In fact, all three experts recommend using a beauty tool not only in the morning but even the night before to prevent unsightly swelling when you wake.

Try:

ReFa Caxa Ray Massager, $350

A multi-functional manual beauty massager, it kneads away tension, boosts micro-circulation for a healthy glow and even sculpts and defines the face, getting rid of puffiness while lifting and firming facial features at the same time.

Ya-Man RF Beaute Photo-Plus, $539

Using a combination of radio frequency, red LED, Iontophoresis, EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) and Ion-cleansing, this anti-ageing beauty tool comes with different settings — Clean, Moisture, EMS, LED and Cool, to target specific skin concerns to combat skin dryness, sagging, fine lines and wrinkles. The result is a healthy and youthful complexion.

2. Use a brightening or radiance enhancing makeup base

These often contain pear, pink or lilac pigments that help erase sallowness and a dull complexion that will instantly illuminates the skin tone, making you look like you’ve had eight full hours of sleep instead of much less.

Try:

HERA Magic Starter SPF25 in 01 Rose, $62

Its pink hue adds a soft radiance to sallow complexions so you don’t look as tired as you feel.

It contains a translucent lighting powder that reflects light to illuminate the skin while its Fix Effect Powder helps makeup last longer throughout the day at the same time.

3. Add colour to the face

Still looking like a whiter shade of pale? Try not to give your colleagues a scare when you head into the office by adding a healthy flush of colour to your complexion.

Yeo suggests applying a blusher onto the cheeks as this instantly freshens and awakens the face, and ensures that you look less like death.

Try:

Giorgio Armani Neo Nude A-Blush, $65

The wand-like applicator makes application a breeze, prevents mess and is great for days when you’re too hungover to function optimally. Comes in four shades.
