When December rolls around, one thing’s for sure, there will be parties galore.
But besides dressing the part, ensuring that your makeup stays en pointe is just as important.
With all that merry-making going on, it’s not always a given that your makeup will last the whole night. After all, no one wants to look like a drunken mess before the clock strikes 12.
But not to worry, here are five easy ways to party-proof your makeup so you can party all night without worrying.
Creating a smooth and supple canvas not only helps makeup adhere better to the skin so it lasts longer but it’ll also gives your complexion a healthy lit-from-within glow.
Makeup artist Yuan Sng advises doing a gentle scrub while makeup artist Lolent Lee says doing a mask before makeup application can help prime the skin.
Prime The Base
To further ensure that makeup lasts through the night, start by applying a makeup base all over, and yes that includes both the face and eyes.
his is because eyelids can get oily and using an eyeshadow primer will ensure that your eyeshadow and eyeliner stays put. According to makeup artist Larry Yeo, to prolong the staying power of your eyeshadow base, blend it from your lash-line all the way up to brow bone.
Choose Long-wear Formulas
Choosing the right formulation for your makeup is important as well. Instead of dewy finish foundations, go for something that is semi-matt for a more lasting power.
In addition, opt for waterproof or sweat-resistant eyeliners, mascaras and even lipsticks.
Never Pile On Your Makeup
Everything in moderation, even when it comes to makeup application. “Do not attempt to over-layer your makeup,” says Yeo.
“Applying excessive product on a focal point, such as too much powder for smoky eyes, or concealer or foundation for coverage, can make the makeup appear brittle and unnatural.”
Set Your Makeup
Complete your base makeup with a light dusting of loose powder. This not only helps foundation last longer, but also prevents transfer and control excess sebum production. And as an extra boost, use a setting spray to further prolong the staying power of your makeup.
And when it comes to the setting spray application, Sng recommends spritzing your face multiple times. “For the longest wear, spritz the setting spray before and after foundation application, and do another round before and after powder if you’re using any,” he recommends.
