Be gentle with your tresses. Don’t rub your hair roughly with a towel to dry it after showering. Instead, gently pat it dry to reduce daily damage.
Also avoid backcombing your hair too often – this may be cool for photo shoots or special occasions, but it could also cause hair breakage.

Struggling with stubborn tangles after a wash? Don’t forcefully brush them out. Gently wring hair dry with a towel first – soaking wet hair is more fragile and prone to breakage.
Then, use a wide-tooth comb and start detangling from the middle, instead of from hair roots. This reduces the strain to your scalp and strands, and minimises hair fall.

Whether you prefer to towel or air dry tresses, you should wait till your hair is 70 to 80 per cent dry before heat styling. That way, your hair won’t ‘boil’ for too long in the heat.
It’s also worth investing in a heat protecting serum or spray before using the hairdryer, straightening iron or curling iron to minimise thermal damage and breakage.

When used daily, styling mousses, sprays and gels can strip your hair of its natural oils. They also leave styling residues on your scalp, which clog and damage hair follicles and contribute to hair loss.

On the topic of shampoo, dry shampoo is not shampoo. Think of it as an emergency fix for second-day hair; not a daily cleansing product. What it does is soak up oil and grease and leave your hair looking fresh.
It won’t lift off impurities and styling residues, or purify your hair and scalp though. So if possible, don’t use it more than twice a week.
A dirty scalp is more prone to infections and hair loss.

In the long run, hair will no longer grow out. So cover up greys with hair dye instead.

Bleaching is one of the most damaging colouring changing options – it basically opens up hair cuticles and dissolves hair natural pigment known as melanin. This causes hair to become brittle and more prone to hair fall from breakage.
The lighter you go, the longer you’ll have to leave the bleaching agent on, and the more damage your hair will sustain. So avoid going too many shades lighter than your natural hair colour.

What’s bad for your skin is also bad for your hair.
Ultraviolet rays from excessive sun exposure can ‘fry hair’, weaken fibres and make your strands more prone to breakage.
That’s one more reason to stay out of the sun, or put on a hat.
