I have been trying to cut down on my sugar intake ever since I attended a press event where a dermatologist expounded on the effects that sugar has on our skin. Sugar hastens the aging process of our skin as well as affects our collagen fibres, making our skin lose its elasticity. As I look at the big 3-0 peeping out at me from the horizon, waiting to give me a big hug in a few years, I can’t help but feel anxious as I notice the tiny little lines starting to form on my forehead.

On top of that, studies done by Lancome’s laboratories have also discovered that glycation – the process of sugar molecules attaching themselves to collagen fibres and causing them to become stiff – also causes our skin to turn more yellow, giving us a more sallow complexion. With the threat of more lines and sallow skin, lessening my sugar consumption seemed like the most sensible choice. But I have to admit, it has been an uphill battle.
