Foundation is undeniably one of the most crucial steps in everyone’s makeup routine. It helps to even out your complexion, diminish the look of fine lines, pores and blemishes and creates an even base for other products to be layered upon it.

Unfortunately many foundations, especially in the drugstore market, are sorely lacking in medium to dark shades, making it hard for those with deeper skin tones to find a foundation that fits their skin tone. That is why we were thrilled to test out the number one best-selling liquid foundation in the United States*, the Maybelline Fit Me + Poreless Foundation that will be available in 14 shades, so whatever skin tone you are, you will be able to find your shade.

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation offers the ultimate skin fit, which means it not only comes in a variety of skin-matching shades, but also formulated to adhere comfortably to normal and oily skin types, for the perfect foundation fit.

The foundation also gets its name from its revolutionary blurring micro-powder formula that promises to erase the appearance of pores and absorb oil for a naturally matte and poreless-looking finish. Not bad for its inexpensive price point of $19.90!

So did the foundation deliver what it promises? Read on to find out.

I chose shade 120 Classic Ivory that works great if you have fair skin with yellow undertone. I used a dense foundation brush to blend the foundation as I usually do with liquid foundations. To my surprise, it applied very smoothly and evenly. The foundation goes on in its light creamy form but leaves a powdered, velvety air-brushed finish on the skin within seconds of application.

The coverage of this foundation is great and a little goes a long way. You can achieve a medium to full coverage by layering the product. With just one layer of foundation, most of the blemishes on my cheek area were concealed. If you have pretty decent skin, you could actually get away with using the foundation alone and there is no need for concealer. Also, I really like how lightweight it feels on the skin. It doesn’t even feel like you have foundation on.

While the coverage for this foundation is great, it did accentuate dry patches on my face and had a less-than ideal finish after a few hours. If you have dry skin like myself, I would recommend moisturizing and hydrating your skin beforehand and layering a hydrating primer underneath. For those with oily skin, this foundation that mattifies the skin in such a way that your skin’s natural radiance can shine through will be great for you because you’ll look dewy (not oily!) and radiant.

Only downside? Application can get quite messy since it comes in this glass bottle that doesn’t have a pump dispenser attached to it. So you have to be careful not to pour too much out of the product out as this leads to wastage. If there was a pump, it will definitely be more travel-friendly.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation ($19.90) is available in 14 shades at Watsons, Guardian, Sasa, Lazada, major supermarkets and selected department stores. Discover the full Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless range here!

Disclaimer: This foundation contains alcohol in it, so if you have sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to do a patch test for compatibility prior to applying it all over your face.
